ESR 8
Project Title  Effective treatment for FD across diagnoses and disciplines
Host institution  University of Florence, Italy
Supervisor  Dr. Fiammetta Cosci
Required qualifications  Degree in medicine, psychology or health sciences; preferably experience in qualitative and   quantitative analysis of data
Duration   36 months

Objectives:

The main goal of this project is to provide a transdiagnostic overview study on the prevalence of FD and its effective treatments used in the different medical disciplines. This ESR will learn how to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to (1) quantify prevalence of FD across Europe; and (2) identify effectivity of symptom-specific and generic treatment elements in relation to characteristics of patients with FD, thus identifying predictors of treatment success across the different diagnoses. The ESR will also contribute to the cross-European survey on health care for FD to study the implementation of the identified evidence-based treatments, informed by a non-academic secondment at BIHC that will teach practical aspects of implementation of scientific findings in occupational health settings.

Expected Results:

  1. Systematic review on prevalence of FD across Europe
  2. Systematic review on predictors of FD treatment efficacy
  3. Implementation of evidence-based treatments for FD

Planned secondments and research visits:

  1. University of Wuppertal (BUW), Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (Prof. Martin), Wuppertal, Germany; Start: Month 20; Duration: 6 months; Aim: learn about and perform a review on predictors of treatment efficacy
  2. Bound – Intelligent Health Capital (BIHC), Lisboa, Portugal (Mrs. Dias); Start: Month 32, Duration: 4 months; Aim: learn about and perform a review on FD in occupational settings
